Friday Musings: I Need This

It has been almost a week. I thought I was ok. I thought I was doing ok. This morning I woke up with that knot in my chest. It seems I am still not.

A friend told me yesterday over the phone that I am unusually happy. He is getting scared. I kind of thought the same thing. It is a little scary. That’t not normal.

But what is the right process in dealing with this? People have their own ways, own time frame, own path. I am volleying from one side to the other. The only thing clear is I still haven’t won over this. Not yet.

I will be camping in a while for three days in a place where calmness abound. I just want to clear my head, get a different perspective on what I am going through, and expunge all the negativities once and for all if possible.

My sister said I need this.

I am keeping my hopes high.

Mom’s 57th

Today is Mom’s special day.

She was on a birthday holiday and she decided to spend it in the hospital.

Well, a part of her day. She has been having therapies for her back as what the doctor has advised her and the sessions are doing her good. Her back pains are going… going…  and soon gone hopefully. Mom’s therapist saw in her form that it’s her birthday today so they made “kantyaw” (Ano bang English sa kantyaw? Tease?) for a birthday blowout. Well, wish granted. On our way to pick Mom up in the hospital, she asked us to get them some food. Yay!

And since the parents will have a prayer meeting in the evening, Kuya rounded up everybody and decided to celebrate Mom’s birthday over lunch.

Off to Los Banos we went. The first choice was Ding Hao but everybody groaned and complained. 🙂 My sister chose Mio Cucina (again).

We were glad that we booked a reservation on the way and ordered dishes in advance because the place was packed. Well, given the capacity of the place, I can imagine. They can only seat about 24 people max.

I asked for the small room they have which can seat a max of six persons. Dad was a little uneasy because he said the space was too cramped. Well, he has no choice! 🙂 We were famished so after taking our seats and ordering some more, the ready dishes were served. Yay!

And the staff were so nice because after recognizing that it’s Mom’s birthday today, they played a Happy Birthday song over their stereo and gave her a cute cake.

But the best part of the lunch aside from the food was that the birthday girl paid for everything. Yay! I wasn’t able to stop myself from singing a very loud Happy Birthday song. 🙂 Sinong kuripot? Ahahahahahahaha.

Happy birthday Mmy. We may not see eye to eye all the time but I know that you just want what’s best for me, for us. We are so happy that you are our Mom because we will never grow up as productive citizens of the world without your guidance, love and care.

Love you Mmy. And don’t worry, you don’t look 57. I am sure a lot will agree. 🙂

I just have to share this photo.

Look closely. Some crazy dentist at large. Ahahahahahahaha.P.S.2.

Too bad the kids weren’t there. School sucks when you miss the birthday celebration of your lola, errr… I mean Mommy Mher.

A Story

It all started with this.

So I told myself

And this

And lastly this,

And the story went on. They say

Then people started telling me

I have a lot of excuses. But

And I hope this doesn’t happen to you. That

Please remember,

But for now

And be

Because my God said,

From 13 to 30 and a Sunny Sunday

You know you’re getting older when you start meeting friends for breakfast. It is so matronaish, like a Sunday club. Next time we’ll try Bingo.

Whatever happened to luncheons and dinners? And whose idea was this again?!

My alarm went off at 5:45 AM. What the… Snooze!

5:50 AM and it started buzzing again.

We were set to meet by 7 AM (on a Sunday!) at Acacia Hotel for breakfast. That’s a good 30-minute drive from my place with no traffic.

And I need about 30 minutes to take a shower, dress up and curl my hair. So yeah. I am running late. Surprise! 🙂

By 5:59 AM I forced myself to crawl out of bed. Come 6:45 AM, I am ready. Eeeek… Better late than never.

And guess what I saw while I was busy texting friends that I am on my way? A rainbow! 🙂

Good vibes.

We have been friends since we were 13 and now that THEY (emphasis on the THEY) just turned 30(!) we forced a meet-up.

Since Ana lives in Alabang, she was there first. I came in second and the farthest of them all came last, LA. 🙂

Time was of the essence. Chika galore!

Three shrieking girls in the lobby of Acacia from 8 AM to 12 noon while trying to gobble sinangag, pancit, tocino, daing na pusit, longganisa and tapa. It was crazy. We just had to break for a while to refill the empty plates and then we were back to where we left off. Remembering the revealing chatters that we willingly shared with each other and I was transported back again to high school days. These high school best buds never changed. 🙂 I love them.

It was 12 noon and we have to break up for other appointments. But it was a time well spent.

After dinner, my brother played with the camera and started taking ugly shots. Ahahahaha.

My sister. We love and hate each other.

The kiddo before we started pissing him off.

The kid demanding for a better treatment. “Tita! Hindi na ako bata!” was his plea at 10 years old.

And the other kid was missing. Too busy facebooking.

The little kid started it all. The adults just followed. Wear shades inside the house on a Sun(ny)day

I love Sunday. 🙂 I hope you had a great one too. 🙂

An Incoherent Saturday Post

Doctor: Hija, let me ask you a question. Do you think it is possible for a man to romantically love several women all at the same time?

Me: Hmmm… I don’t know.

Doctor: Well, if you’d ask me I would say no. I don’t think so.

Me: Oh. So you don’t think it’s possible?

Doctor: How can you love several women simultaneously? Loving entails loyalty. Not doing so is tantamount to cheating.

Hmmm… makes sense…

I was Mom’s driver today. She underwent several tests a few days ago and has a scheduled check up with one of the doctors this Saturday.

As we were seated in the doc’s office discussing the results, the consultation veered towards the topic on erectile dysfunction, enlargement of the prostate and the conversation above. I was like, what the hell??? Ahahahahaha. My mind was too focused on strategizing how to be an F1 racer in SLEX without getting caught by the enforcers because I have to be home by 2 PM. I NEED TO WATCH UAAP CHEERDANCE COMPETITION!

But he went on saying,

You know hija, they said women are like fruits. They are very unique. They have their own shapes, sizes, taste, aroma. On the other hand, men like fruit salad.

Ahahahahahahahahahahaha. I can just laugh. Are these pronouncements relevant to what I am going through now? I can just guess. The universe is probably mocking me.

Anyway, thank God my Mom’s results were ok. We hope not to come back to that hospital anytime soon.

We said goodbye to the chatty doctor around 12 noon. Mom said we still have time to grab a quick lunch before my “engagement”. We went to Aviles.

If you live in Calamba then you’d know Aviles is equivalent to Bulalo. Bulalo or Beef Shank Soup is a typical Filipino dish that is so delish.

We got one of that and some other stuff.

Food for the young:

Marrow aka Utak

Food for the old:

Pinangat na Yellow Fin Tuna

Then came the bill. It was just Mom and me so it won’t be much, I thought.

Are you crazy???? Php500 for the bulalo????!!! It must have been a long time since we last ate there hence the surprise. Or maybe because I was just not the one paying for the meals before? Anyway, I looked forlornly at the bulalo which I didn’t even manage to hurt. That Bulalo soup is coming home with me.

And guess what, Mom suddenly had this urge to go grocery shopping. She said she’ll be very quick. Waaaaaa. I kept checking my watch. I NEED TO WATCH UAAP CHEERDANCE COMPETITION!

Well, she was right. It didn’t take her long. I kind of made sure it won’t take her long because I was following her around like a dog so she won’t forget.

We were home by 2:30.

And the rest is history.

We won.

Aviles is located in Real Hi-way, Calamba, Laguna.

Did I say UP win? 😉
